Where we stayed: Hilton La Romana
How long we went for: 12 nights & 13 days
Favourite experience: morning swim in the turquoise Caribbean sea
Our romantic couples’ getaway to the Dominican Republic was beyond amazing. Just writing this blog post makes me tear up remembering all the special moments we had there! It was our 3rd wedding anniversary and the first real vacation since our honeymoon! I wanted to go to an all-inclusive resort, where we can just relax and be pampered. After 2 years of growing my business and overcoming burnout, we needed a rejuvenation vacation, full of reading, soaking up the sun, listening to the ocean, sipping mojitos, eating whenever we wanted and watching the sunset on the beach together. We could not pick a better place than Hilton La Romana in the beautiful Dominican Republic!
Accommodation
As an European neat freak, the cleanliness of the hotel is very important to me (no, I can’t stand a bug or a cute gecko in my bedroom!). After reading hundreds of reviews, including watching TikTok videos about resorts in the Caribbean, we chose this one for 2 main reasons: cleanliness and the beach. Compared to popular resorts in Punta Cana, Hilton La Romana stands out for its calm Caribbean beach and I can tell you – it was one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen! Morning swim with Wes, while the beach was still quiet was one of the most memorable moments of this trip for both of us. Oh, that calm turquoise sea water and tall palms – a real view is better than a postcard picture! I have to mention that we stayed in Premium Club Adults Only section of the resort, but we had access to the family side as well and I can confirm that the beach and pool on the family side were equally beautiful. If you are curious about the cleanliness – I give 10/10 to this resort!
When it comes to entertainment – we were wowed! Besides daily beach activities, there was always a great evening program. We loved the circus and magician performance so much, that we ended up watching it twice! One evening we crushed a kid’s movie on the beach and it was one of the most romantic evenings ever! I mean watching a movie on the beach under those tall palms?? This should be a thing for adults too!
Food
The food was 7/10 for me, but I am a picky European eater. I don’t eat seafood, so my diet was mostly limited to fresh tropical fruit, salads & Pina Coladas! So really, can’t complain here! There were many restaurants to choose from including a buffet, which had a wide variety of meals to choose from. Our favourite restaurant was the resort’s Dominican restaurant on the beach! Oddly enough, I thought their traditional rise with a chicken tasted very similar to Slovak risotto! I really loved that. Wes, of course, loved the food, especially seafood paella!
Day trip
It was really relaxing kind of vacation. We spend most of our days on the beach, except for the one day when we took an excursion to beautiful Saona Island. I was really looking forward to it because I have seen many videos of this paradise. It truly is paradise, the only downside is that it became a tourist destination and it was packed with tourists! So if you are thinking about going there and hoping to have a private remote paradise Island experience, it probably won’t be that! But still, very beautiful place to visit!
If you are looking for a lively place where you can walk out of the resort and visit local places – you will need a ride. It is about an hour ride from Hilton la Romana to popular Punta Cana. If you just want to relax – this place is the perfect destination!
